Shigesato Itoi - BitNick's Career Exemplar (and subject of recent FanArt)(but not the creepy kind)

Last week, I was inspired.

A friend had called me to talk games, which I was more than happy to do. He and I talked about some of the recent games we had been playing (Prototype, Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and Assassin's Creed II to name a few), then discussed some upcoming films we were excited to see (Liam Neeson plays Alaskan Liam Neeson, in I Will Punch a Wolf with Broken Medicine Bottles Between my Knuckles, which came out last week).
*In Movie-Trailer-Guy voice*
When wolves kidnapped his daughter, one man would do anything to get her back...
Even kill the wolves who raised him as their own!
All of these things were exciting, and the conversation was sparkling, when my friend asked a fateful question: "Have you ever played EarthBound?"

"Have I..." I sputtered. "Have... I played EARTHBOUND?!"

A New Logo, a New Year, and a Whole New Set of Lies

Alright. Look at the top of this page. I'll wait.

The very first image result when you Google, "this is taking forever".

Happy Birthday, Mrs. Bit!

Hey everybody!

Today is a very special day for the whole Bit family. No, it's not the day when I have found a way to make this website pay me obscene amounts of money just to work on it (although, if any of you have any ideas, put a pin in that and we'll come back to it later). It is also not national 8BitVS day, in spite of the fact that I have been petitioning those fatcats in Congress to choose a date for some time... typical liberal media.

No, today is Mrs. Bit's BIRTHDAY!

Japanese "Trailers" - The Cultural Divide

There is something about Japanese game marketing that has been bothering me for a while, and by golly, I'm going to write an article about it and pretend that it will make a difference... Or my name isn't BitNick.

The "video game trailer" is a wonderful tradition with an illustrious history. I remember the first time that a game trailer caught my attention and swept me away. It was a cinematic trailer that was included on the disc for the original Starcraft, and it was for a little game you might have heard of called Diablo "Freaking" II! (I just added the "freaking" there. Although now that I think about it, I would play a game called Diablo Freaking...)
